Definition The Scout Movement is a voluntary non-political educational movement for young people open to all without distinction of gender, origin, race or creed, in accordance with the purpose, principles and method conceived by the Founder and stated below. Purpose The purpose of the Scout Movement is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities. The World Organization of the Scout Movement is an international, non-governmental organization composed of its recognized national Scout organizations. Its governing body is the World Conference, which meets every three years, and its executive is the World Committee composed of elected volunteers. Sri Lanka Scout Association (SLSA) Scouting was started in Si Lanka in 1912, initiated by a British Colonial civil engineer Mr.Fransis.G.Stevans then residing in the Matale Administrative District in the Central Province.Within a few years  the movement spread to other parts of the island more particularly to the administrative districts of kandy,Colombo,Galle and Jaffna. At the time of Mr.Stevans’ departure in 1945 from the island, branch associations had been opened in several other districts making a total of 20 branches. The first Jamboree was held in Sri Lanka in the district of Colombo in the year 1917.This was followed by eight other jamborees held in Colombo (1962) ,Anuradapura (1983) ,Kurunagala (1992) , Kandy (1998) , Galle(Balapitiya 2002), Nuwara Eliya (2006), Hambantota (2010)  and Jaffna (2016) In addition to these national Jamborees held at intervals of around four years, the association also staged a SAARC Jamboree in 1990 with the participatio
